FOSS4G 2026 is the Open Source Geospatial Foundation's flagship annual conference, held this year in Hiroshima from late August to early September with workshops, a main conference and a community sprint. Day one keynotes look back at twenty years of open-source geospatial history in a talk by Markus Neteler and Venkatesh Raghavan, and the future of OSGeo with Tom Kralidis, Joana Simoes, Marco Bernasocchi and Jeroen Ticheler. Diamond sponsors include Eukarya and Geo Technologies.
Who it's for
FOSS4G is genuinely useful for people building or applying open-source geospatial tools: core project developers and contributors, researchers presenting geospatial science, and government, NGO, and humanitarian-sector staff using open geospatial data and software. It is less relevant to proprietary/commercial GIS vendors or business-side stakeholders looking for enterprise sales content, since the programme is oriented around open-source tooling, community development, and applied/scientific use cases.
